Q. What would you tell your younger self?

If I had the chance to talk to my younger self, I would tell her that her past mistakes will be powerful lessons for the future. Indeed, it is a profound truth that you learn more from your mistakes than your successes. Time is the most precious resource we have. Our time is limited and life is full of surprises. You never know what may happen. Sometimes our choices may seem insignificant, but they do strongly affect our lives, in a good or bad way.

So I believe that it is crucial to be conscious that every single one of our actions has consequences for our future, for that of the people around us, and beyond.

Q. How do you express yourself to make an impact? What advice would you give other women to encourage them on their musical journey?

I guess the best way to express myself is through music, and to me being myself means just to be natural. You must not compare yourself to others, or try to be someone else, because each person is unique, there is no one and there won't be anyone like you. Trust your authenticity. The best thing we can do is to work on ourselves, to keep improving.

Pina Bausch said: "Your fragility is also your strength". We are humans, we are not superheroes, everybody has flaws and bad moments, we can't be in our best shape all the time. And even the worst moments could lead you to a new point or turn into creative ones. Sufferance makes you more empathetic, it enriches who you are, and it can inspire you in some other form.

Q. Which was the most important performance that encouraged you on your musical path?

I think that each performance is special, unique and cannot be copied or reproduced in the exact same way, that's why I live every performance as a new, further step of encouragement. But if I have to choose one of the most meaningful moments of my entire life, that would be my very first concert, which happened back in 2006, when I was 10 years old, on the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth. I played Mozart at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan, my hometown. It was snowing massively, and it somehow reminded me of Salzburg's atmosphere. That was also a happy coincidence because my favorite composer is Mozart.

I can say that my life has changed since then. I was young and totally unaware of how hard this career could be, but in that precise moment I realized that I wanted to feel those emotions, that adrenaline, for the rest of my life.

Ho iniziato a suonare quando avevo 3 anni ed è stato grazie a mia madre, che aveva studiato canto e pianoforte, che mi sono avvicinata allo strumento. Non ricordo il momento esatto in cui ho messo le mani sulla tastiera per la prima volta, perché ero troppo piccola: quando ho preso coscienza il pianoforte faceva già parte della mia vita, è come se ci fosse sempre stato. Inizialmente era tutto un gioco, ma poi mi sono resa conto di quanto mi piacesse e ho deciso di applicarmi seriamente. Sono entrata al Conservatorio di Milano a 10 anni nella classe di Edda Ponti, alla quale devo moltissimo e tutt'ora chiedo consigli. Mi sono diplomata a 17 anni con il massimo dei voti, la lode e la menzione d'onore, sotto la guida di Edda Ponti e di Silvia Limongelli. Poi ho partecipato a una masterclass del pianista Jean-Marc Luisada, che mi ha preso come sua allieva; da allora studio con lui a Parigi e riveste un ruolo fondamentale per la mia crescita artistica e personale. Da poco ho cominciato anche a perfezionarmi con Davide Cabassi qui a Milano.

Penso che PianoCity sia un ottimo modo per diffondere la musica classica in tutta la città. Distaccandosi da quella che è la tradizionale performance da teatro oppure da sala da concerto, si ha la possibilità di richiamare un pubblico molto vario. Alcune persone magari sono meno abituate ad assistere a concerti di musica cosiddetta «colta» per varie ragioni, a volte sono poco pubblicizzati, oppure per via dei costi che sono generalmente elevati, oppure a volte si pensa che questo tipo di musica sia per un pubblico meno giovane. Con questo progetto, al contrario, il contatto con un pubblico variegato è inevitabile. D'altronde nei tre giorni ci sono concerti di pianoforte ovunque ed è praticamente impossibile non notarlo.

Ho deciso di partecipare anche quest'anno a PianoCity perché ho preso parte al progetto sin da PreludioPianoCity, e mi piace l'idea di poter dare ogni anno il mio piccolo contributo alla diffusione della musica nella mia città natale. Mi ricordo che PreludioPianoCity, alla Caserma Mascheroni, era colmo di persone e ho sentito un fortissimo coinvolgimento del pubblico, che stava proprio intorno a me mentre suonavo. La stessa cosa è successa anche gli anni successivi. L'anno scorso ho suonato in un bellissimo giardino, ed esibirmi immersa nella natura è stato davvero emozionante. 

Mozart! È in assoluto il mio compositore preferito. Ovviamente mi piacciono anche gli altri autori ma penso che lui sia un genio e che la sua musica rappresenti la perfezione, è così pura ed equilibrata che mi dà pace e mi mette sempre di buon umore.
